Beach Memory Ornaments

We vacationed in the Outer Banks, NC this past summer with Ryan's family.
It was Ellen's first trip to the beach.

Ryan filled a ziploc baggie with sand from the beach before we left.  (Although I could have collected as much from our van from the amount I vacuumed out of it upon our return...)  When we got home I tossed the bag of sand in with our Christmas decorations.

A few weeks ago I bought a clear glass ornament from Hobby Lobby.  And when the Christmas decorations came out I filled the ornament with the sand from the beach.

Then I took a silver permanent marker and wrote Ellen's name, "OBX," and "2011" on the ornament.  A great keepsake for her first trip to the shore!

We did the same thing to remember Clare and Jude's first beach vacations.  (Although back then I only had 2 kids and took the time to paint their names on the ornaments.)

These are definitely some of their favorite Christmas ornaments!
